MATLAB: Matrix dimension must agree to use .*

I debugged my code and checked my workspace variables, and when I loaded in the two images their numbers were identical (matrix dimensions, their matrix dimensions after I manipulated them) yet when I use .* it still says an error because .* requires identical matrix dimensions, when, Q.E.D., that's what I have! Suggestions?

Without knowing what the images are and seeing your code, it’s difficult to determine the problem. That they’re images means that they could have three dimensions (the third being the colour channels in a RGB image), and if one is a grayscale image having two dimensions, you could get that error even if they have the same number of rows and columns.

More than likely you're actually looking for the "dot" operator .^ to return the element-wise values of the vector x I'd venture...but, if you really are intent on turning into an array, simply

[x zeros(length(x),length(x)-1)]^t

is the generic expression (but I still don't think that's what you intend/want).

That is a dangerous way that you used size(). See Steve's blog: http://blogs.mathworks.com/steve/2011/03/29/even-more-information-about-the-size-function/

A common way to deal with your error is to just convert everything to double. But if you do then you need to use [] to see your images or else they will show up as all white because double images are expected to be in the range 0-1.

imshow(doubleImage, []);

The [] will adjust the display to handle whatever range your array may have, and not require it to be in the 0-1 range.
