MATLAB: MATLAB crashes on startup or when using “cftool” with AMD®/ATI® graphics cards

MATLAB R2014b crashes upon start in my computer. The same crash occurs when I bring up the "cftool" in MATLAB R2013b and R2014a.
My computer is using an AMD®/ATI® graphics cards with OpenGL driver version 12.
Why is this happening?
