Hello,

In a GUI, I have an HTML viewer in the MATLAB figure using the following command actxcontrol('Shell.Explorer.2',[5, 150, 5000, 575], gcf); I call specific web pages based on my requirements and that part is working very fine.

The user interaction with this web page produces status update message on the web page which I would like to read.How do we read only those status update messages that appears on the screen? I know the x, y position of the screen where the message appears.

Please help. Thank you

Use event handlers to the actxcontrol object. rewrite the code statement in the MATLAB command window as

h = actxcontrol('Shell.Explorer.2',[5, 150, 5000, 575], gcf);

then type h.events to know about the events associated with this object

Then register appropriate event and write a function for that event.

Two things:

1. When matlab requests the page from the server (using urlwrite or any other method), it's never going to see the changes generated by the user, the same way you wouldn't expect another user to see the changes you make locally. The only way for you to pick up the changes would be either to talk to the web browser the user is using (assuming it is possible) or to actually render the page in matlab and have the user interact with the page from matlab (assuming it is possible with the limited gui tools of matlab).

2. If, in the web browser, you can't see the changes to the source of the page when you interact with it this means that the page is manipulated using javascript. This only change the content of the page in memory and on screen. Again, just reading the source won't help you and you either need to ask the web browser or implement your own browser.

Basically, your assumption is wrong. The page source itself is not updated, it's only the in-memory representation that is changed.

MATLAB: Can I embed another application’s document in a MATLAB figure window

Excel does not have an ActiveX control but does allow its documents to be embedded into MATLAB figure windows through the use of ActiveX document serving. These documents can be embedded by using the Shell.Explorer ActiveX control.

Here is how to embed an Excel workbook into a figure window:

figure ('pos', [100 100 780 420])
hBrowser = actxcontrol ('Shell.Explorer', [0 0 780 420]);
invoke (hBrowser, 'Navigate', 'file://d:\tmp\myexcel.xls');

You can also embed web pages into the figure window:

figure ('pos', [100 100 780 420])
hBrowser = actxcontrol ('Shell.Explorer', [0 0 780 420]);
url = ['www.mathworks.com'];
invoke (hBrowser, 'Navigate', url);

Check your application's documentation to see if it is an ActiveX document server. Any of these documents should be embeddable in a MATLAB figure window using the Shell.Explorer control.
