MATLAB: Load both MatLab and Simulink into the background.

Is it possible to write a script outside of MatLab, that'll open MatLab without popping up the GUI interface? Sort of like load_system does compared to open_system? If you can load MatLab into the "background" is it possible to load in models using load_system? I want to make a program that can open MatLab and a Simulink model without the user knowing that either has been opened and I didn't know if it was possible to do so. Thanks!

What are you calling it from? If you use the MATLAB COM Automation Sever, a sample VB script would look like this:

( Execute() will call Matlab commands as if you typed them at the command line, so you can add your calls to Simulink there.)

While using a Visual Basic .NET client application, modify your client program as follows:

In the above code, FEVAL is used to execute the MATLAB Command:

enableservice('AutomationServer',true)

which sets MATLAB's state to an Automation Server and does not terminate it when the client application terminates.

If the client application is a C/C++ program, the MATLAB Server is typically created using the MATLAB Engine API functions like engOpen( ). In this case, the following line can be added to the engine C/C++ code to prevent MATLAB from terminating even though the client application terminates:

engEvalString(ep,"enableservice('AutomationServer',true)");

The service can be closed using the following command either with FEVAL or ENGEVALSTRING depending on hoe the service was enabled:

enableservice('AutomationServer',false);

One way of doing this is to declare a dynamic array in Visual Basic and then redimension the array to determine the size of the MATLAB matrix with an initial call to MATLAB using GetFullMatrix.

Then the output from this call to GetFullMatrix can be used to redimension the Visual Basic array using the ReDim keyword.
