I would like to print two or more consecutive figures to the same PDF document.

It is not possible to print two consecutive figures to the same PDF document using the APPEND option with the PRINT command.
As a workaround, you can print multiple figures to a single PostScript (PS) file with the -append option and then convert the final document to PDF using a PS-to-PDF utility. The above workaround may lead to loss in sharpness of the image exported.
Another workaround is to  use the “export_fig” function available on MATLAB File Exchange with “-append” option.
Example usage of “export_fig”:
