MATLAB: If statement with an greater than comparison

Hi,

I am trying to write an "if" statement between 2 values. I have a value "A" and a value "B". I want to set C to the value of A or B that is larger.

So like if A>B then C=A, otherwise C=B.

I am having trouble getting the proper code for this in matlab though.

if A > B
  C = A;
else
  C = B;

The logical indexing shouldn't be used in combination with an if-statement. Let me give you a small example:

a=[3 5 6];
b=[5 4 8];
%then a>b results in [false true false] (or [0 1 0])
%a([0 1 0]) is 5, so a(a>b) is 5
%a(a<b) is [3 6]

That is called logical indexing, because you use a logical array to index another array.

The code below should solve your problem.

a=rand(1024);
b=rand(1024);
%create shorthand arrays with logical indexing
a1=a(a>b);
a2=a(a<=b);
b1=a(a>b);
b2=a(a<=b);
ab = (a1-b1)./(a1+(2*b1));
