MATLAB: I want to create a function

function

it's gonna be named my_fun and it will sum up this: 1/i+1/((i+2)*(i+3))

for i=1 to N

help anyone?

Have you read the Matlab Getting Started Guide?

Read Scripts and Functions under Programming:

Open the Matlab editor and declare your function.

function output = my_fun(N)

end

It seems to me that your user will input only N and then your function will do the rest of the work.

Write your code in the function body (between the function declaration and the end statement)

Save the function as my_func.m in a folder on the Matlab path and execute your function, ex:

>> outsum = my_func(10);

Function definitions are not allowed inside the Command Window or insider an M-script file, but only inside a function-M-file. You can recognize them by the first word "function".

The functions are defined either as sub-functions, after the main function has finished, or as nested function inside another function.

If you use nested function or any function is closed by end, all functions in an M-file must be closed by a trailing end.

On UNIX, if you wish to call the function /home/user1/myfunc.m, you would need to perform the following steps:

Inside /usr/local/jobstartup.m, add the following code:

addpath('/home/user1')

The function myfunc.m might be:

 function x = myfunc(a, b, c)
 x = a + b + c;

After jobstartup.m is modified and myfunc.m is saved, you can execute the following command to call this function:

 y = dfeval('myfunc', {1}, {2}, {3}, 'JobManager', 'MyJobManager', 'FileDependencies', {'/usr/local/jobStartup.m '});

On Windows, if you wish to execute \\home\user1\myfunc.m, you would need to perform the following steps:

The function that is to be used, myfunc.m in this example, must be located on a shared network drive that all machines can access by using a UNC path.

Inside C:\myfiles\jobstartup.m, add the following code:
