How do I use the from workspace block to input a range of data for solar irradiance? What format of the excel sheet should I have?

Since R2015b, Simulink supports the From Spreadsheet block.

From Spreadsheet can read Excel files directly and output signals to Simulink.

I think you'll have to use ActiveX to copy the sheet, then delete the sheet, then insert a new sheet with the desired sheet number. Search this forum for ActiveX.

Is it not possible to do this from the GUI, but you can do it from the command line:

blk_pathname = 'testModel/From Spreadsheet';
input_xlsx = 'test.xlsx';
input_sheet = 'Sheet1';
set_param(blk_pathname, 'FileName', input_xlsx);
set_param(blk_pathname, 'SheetName', input_sheet);
