MATLAB: How to store polygons into a list

Say I have two polygons Pol1 and Pol2. How can I store them into a list that is used as an input for a function. My function, at some point, is supposed to be able to pick out polygons from this list and then graph them using polyshape.

Pol1 = [3 4; 1 1; 5 1];
Pol2 = [0 5; 5 5; 0 6; 6 3];

Why not load them into a cell array?

Pol1 = polyshape([3 4; 1 1; 5 1]);
Pol2 = polyshape([0 5; 5 5; 0 6; 6 3]);
polyList={Pol1,Pol2};

When given an array of polyshape objects, area returns an array of the same size. This means you can use it for logical indexing.

A = area(poly1);
U = union(poly1(A > 0))
area(U)

You could encapsulate the union-skipping-empties step into your own function.

function outputPolyshape = unionSkippingEmpties(inputPolyshapes)
A = area(inputPolyshapes);
outputPolyshape = union(inputPolyshapes(A > 0));
end

You could even have this accept a threshold for what counts as an "empty" / "trivial" polyshape that should be excluded from the union.
