MATLAB: How to save data in matlab file

Hi fellows, Right now I am using things like
if true
  % DD=xlsread('parameters.xlsx');
end
to read in data from excel. Is there anyway that I can just export the data in excel as matlab file format. It is just sometimes if my excel program doesn't work, then I can't run my matlab program. That is quite annoying…So could you tell me how to do that?

You can use save and load command
save filname DD
DD will be saved in a filname.mat
to get your data
load filname
