MATLAB: How to perform a convergence speed comparison test

How do I perform a convergence speed comparison of the bisection and Newton-Raphson methods?

How about using tic and toc? Or timeit?

 x=nan(1,MaxIterations);
 while i<=MaxIterations
   ...
   x(i)=...
   plot(x), drawnow
   i=i+1
 end

However, it's debatable whether this can give you true information about convergence, if you don't know what x(i) is converging to.

E.g., vectorized form:

y = 2 * x .* (sech(x.^2 - 9)).^2;
