MATLAB: How to modify the output for the answers in the program I’ve written

I've created a simple program to convert inches to centimeters and pounds to kilograms and I would like to reduce the number of digits after the zero. Problem is I'm not sure how for this problem?

inches = input('Please enter the height in inches: ');

pounds = input('Please enter the weight in pounds: ');

if inches <= 0

    display('Height must be greater than zero!');break;

elseif pounds <= 0

    display('Weight must be greater than zero!');break;

end

[Centimeters,Kilograms] = convert_height(inches, pounds)

I get the answers in order (within brackets) but I'm also getting way too many digits than I need.

Either limit the number of shown digits by

format short g

(see: help format), or display your data explicitly:

[Centimeters,Kilograms] = convert_height(inches, pounds);
fprintf('%.3f  %.3f', Centimeters, Kilograms);

That’s a fairly complicated file to read, but this works:

fidi = fopen('heightweight.txt');
D = textscan(fidi, '%f%f', 'HeaderLines',8, 'TreatAsEmpty',{'\' '}'}, 'EndOfLine','\r\n');
fclose(fidi);
inch = D{1};
inch = inch(~isnan(inch));
pound = D{2};
pound = pound(~isnan(pound));

Then expressing your function (saving it to IPtoCK.m) as:

function [centimeter,kilogram]=IPtoCK(inch,pound)
centimeter=(inch.*2.54);
kilogram=(pound.*0.4536);
end

and calling it as:

[centimeter,kilogram]=IPtoCK(inch,pound)

is all you need.

MATLAB: I’m struggling to get fprintf to work

in aa format you need the % to mark the beginning of aa substitution . Then you might have some flag characters. After that you might have aa number indicating the field width . That can be followed by aa period and then the number of digits after the decimal place.

Now After all those and not optional is the conversion specification letter that says what kind of format to use . d for decimal, c for character , f for floating point , e for exponential , g for general , and so on.

You forgot to put in the conversion letter .
