How can I log the set capacity value of an entity server in SimEvents?

Hi Alex,

You can log the capacity of the entity server by selecting the block in the model and then typing the following in MATLAB command line

>> get_param(gcb,'Capacity')

Additionally, if you are interested in logging the number of entities being served in the block, you can check the option in the Statistics section of the Block Parameters window. This will create an output port for the Entity Server block, which you can connect to a "To Workspace" block to log the values to the workspace. Please refer the attachment for more information.

I got this tip about how to solve this problem from a very clever MathWorks developer.

Here's what he says: In the command-line of sedebug, command such as blklist, blkinfo and eninfo all can take a return value, e.g.

sedebug>> a=blklist returns a string array that carries block ids and block names.

You can then parse this array using MATLAB, and further dispatch sedebug command such as blkinfo:

sedebug>> b=blkinfo(a(4,1))

b= Time: 0 Block: ‘sedemo_md1/FIFO Queue’ BlockID: ‘blk3’ Capacity: Inf Entities: [1x3 struct]

Further parsing b.Entities can derive information of an entity, e.g.:

sedebug>> c=b.Entity(3)

c = ID: ‘en6’ Status: ‘Queued’ TimeInQueue: 0.1489

By chaining the above commands, you can create a MATLAB script. Then, you can use that script in the command-line of sedebug and get a list of entities and their locations.

Have you tried using SimEvents blocks for this? With simEvents you can use an 'Entity Generator' block and a 'Entity Server' block to model your queueing system. You can add two attributes to the entity via the 'Entity Type' tab page in the 'Entity Generator' block and call them 'entryTime' and 'ExitTime' or something like that. You can add timeStamps by getting the current time and setting the appropriate attribute in the entity to the current time. For example, see inside the 'Design Patterns' in SimEvents for 'Time stamp entities upon generation'. You can use this pattern to time stamp entities in the geenrator. Similarly you can timestamp entities in the entity server's 'Service Complete' event action:

entity.ExitTime = stampEntity();

Then you can find the difference from these two values.
