MATLAB: How to load only one parameter from a .mat file which contains several parameter

Hi MATLAB users,

I've got a question which really helps me to do my calculations faster.

Suppose we have a data_collection.mat file which contains:

data1 <351x40x160>

data2 <300x39x200>

data3 <400x50x520>

Suppose a .mat file even bigger in which every time I load, it takes tremendous amount of time. But in fact I need only one of parameters (such as data1). Is there any way to load ONLY this and ignore the other? By that the desired data will load much faster.

Beatriz - isn't folder a struct array with all files that are of extension *.mat? If that is the case, can't you just iterate over each struct in the array and load that file? Perhaps something like

cd 'C:\Users\David\Documents\Tesis\matlab\resultados\saves' %folder where are the files I want to load
myFiles = dir ('*.mat');
for k=1:length(myFiles)
    myData = load(myFiles(k).name);
    % plot your data
end

It is not clear to me what you want to do. I am guessing that you want to

Save data2 to the file 'clean_data.mat'
Save data3 to the file 'newdataC.mat'
Save data4 to the file 'newdataE.mat'

If that is correct, here is how to do that:

save('clean_data','data2')
save('newdataC','data3')
save('newdataE','data4')
