MATLAB: How to keep a function operating while the screen is locked

using MATLAB 2014A on macOS 10.11.6, I am running a function from the command line, and when I lock the screen the function suspends activity until I unlock it again.

It seems like this is not a problem of Matlab, but of the operating system. Obviously the machine is not only locked, but falls into sleep. There are several method to keep the machine awake. Under Windows this can be done by FEX:WinPower:

Under linux the tool "Caffeine" might be useful.
