MATLAB: How to include a structure value in a title

I want to create the following title:

"Title for plot where struct value mystruct.val1 is equal to 80."

using this line of code:

title(['Title for plot where struct value mystruct.val1 is equal to', num2str(mystruct.val1)])

'mystruct' is defined as follows:

mystruct=struct('val1',80);

Why does this give me the error: "Undefined variable "mystruct" or class"mystruct.val1"."

I checked that if I call mystruct.val1 in the matlab prompt I get the correct mystruct.val1=80.

Being quite new to the use of structs I may have misunderstood some simple idea, and I would be very grateful if someone could explain this to me – thanks in advance!

It is working correctly. Have you defined your structure before using it?

The only other function used for multistep ahead prediction is NARNET which only uses output feedback as an input.

Since NARXNET uses both output feedback AND an external input, it obviously is better AS LONG AS AN EXTERNAL OUTPUT IS AVAILABLE.

HOWEVER, when an external output is available for only a limited time, it is possible to also design a NARNET from the external input. Then, multistep ahead prediction of the external input can be used to enhance the nNARXNET multistep ahead prediction of the output.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE MATLAB DOCUMENTATION !

MATLAB: How to assign a value to a field in a multi-level struct when the field name is contained in a variable

One way to do this is to use the 'subsasgn' function, which can be used to assign a value to a subscripted field. This is demonstrated in the attached example and explained below.

For this case, where there are multiple levels of the structure, create a compound indexing expression, or an array of structures, for the input parameter, 'S'. Each structure in the array must contain the type of subscript and field name. For more information on this parameter, please see the documentation page for 'subsasgn':

To do this, first split 'fieldToChange' into a cell array using 'strsplit' and splitting on the period delimiter:

>> fieldToChangeCell = strsplit(fieldToChange, '.');

Next, create an anonymous function, 'makeSParam', that takes in a field name, 'x', and places it into a structure for the 'S' parameter format of 'subsasgn':

>> makeSParam = @(x)struct('type','.','subs',x);

You can then apply this function to each cell in 'fieldToChangeCell' using 'cellfun', resulting in the compound indexing expression, 'idx':

>> idx = cellfun(makeSParam, fieldToChangeCell);

Finally, use 'subsasgn' to set the field to the desired value of 0:

>> myStruct = subsasgn(myStruct, idx, 0);
