MATLAB: How to import data into guide which uses a function I have created

Hello is there a way to import excel data into a simple GUIDE i have created? I understand workspace data can only be accessed on a script but not a function, hence is there a way to import data in a gui and then pass the data into a function i have created to use the data? Thanks!

1. The workspace can be accessed by a function, provided you input the variable name of the data as a input to the function.

2. You can input the name of excel file with path to your gui and then read the file inside the gui function.

Atas - use the handle structure which has the handles to all of the GUI controls. In your case you will want to do something like the following in order to get the state of checkbox1 from within the pushbutton1

 function pushbutton1_Callback(hObject, eventdata, handles)
 state = get(handles.checkbox1, 'Value');
 if state == 1
    run('A.m');
 else
    run('B.m');
 end

Note how the inputs to the run function have been converted to strings (you may need the full path to these scripts if they are not in the MATLAB search path).

Varun - when you import the data from the Excel file, you are doing

handles.data1=xlsread(filename, selectedsheet)
data1=handles.data1
set(hObject, 'data1')

where the data1 field of the handles struct is being created and set to the data from the file. This is fine but what you need to do next is to save this new field to the structure (right now, you are just updating a local copy)

handles.data1=xlsread(filename, selectedsheet)
guidata(hObject, handles); % <---- the updated handles object is now saved

The other two lines (the second which may throw an error if the data1 field is not a property of hObject) can be removed. So remove

data1=handles.data1
set(hObject, 'data1')

Then in the popupmenu6_Callback, you would access data1 via

if isfield(handles, 'data1')
    item=handles.data1(item_selected, 29)
end

The line get(handles.popupmenu1, 'data1') which is throwing the error, can be removed.
