MATLAB: How to generate a license file for an earlier version of Mathworks

Our organization is using R2017a and I am rehosting my Network Concurrent license to a new license server. I am trying to generate the new license file with the Host ID of the new server, but the license file generated is targeted to release R2017b. Is there a way I can specify the license be generated for release R2017a?

If you are authorized for R2017b then you do not need to do anything: any valid license for a later version also permits all previous versions (at least since the license structure changed in R2006b time frame.)

You are only able to generate a license file for the latest release on a network license. It is highly recommended that you update your current license server to the latest version.

This error can occur for the following reasons:

1. The version of MATLAB is newer than the version of the license.dat file on the server machine. To resolve this issue, update the license.dat file on the server machine to the latest release that you are licensed for. Contact your license administrator to make the update.

$MATLAB/etc ($MATLAB\flexlm for releases prior to R2010b on Windows)
