MATLAB: How to fix the legend

legend

I am trying to create a legend key that says the name of a cell, then is followed by the value for mutual information.

Something like this:

legend(strcat('T9C11, MI =' num2str(mutualInfoTotal(67)),'T8C7','T8C5','T9C6')

But with the values for mutual information after each of the electrode names. But what I am doing now isn't working. So, what I want the legend to be like is like:

T9C11, MI = ______

T8C7, MI = ______

and so on.

You can still use the same idea as Ruger28's comment, just pull the pertinent values from mutualInfoTotal:

baseNames = {'T9C11','T8C7','T8C5','T9C6'};
baseValues = mutualInfoTotal([67 68 69 70]); % or whatever the indices are
NewNames = cell(numel(baseNames,1));
for idx = 1:length(baseNames)
    NewNames{idx} = sprintf('%s, MI = %2.2f',baseNames{idx},baseValues(idx));
end
legend(NewNames)

Using cd just to read data is error prone. Because you have to ensure that after cd to change back to your original dir, otherwise the next dir will not be found. So if you first change to sub001, then the next change to sub002 will work from within sub001, i.e., tries to change to sub001/sub002 with respect to your original dir.

Instead of cd, use something like

filename = fullfile(dirlist(h).name, 'data.mat')); %assuming 'data.mat' is the name of your mat-file in the various subdirectories
load(filename, 'X'); % assuming 'X' is the variable you need from file data.mat

Why don't you use idx as a vector?

for i = 1:n_cells
    ...
    idx(i) = mutualInfoTotal >= 5; 
    highMI_sec = mutualInfoTotal(idx(i));
end

Then, later you can skip 0 values using:

for c=1:n_cells
    if ~idx(c)
        continue
    end
    spikes = cellspikes{c};
    ...
end
