MATLAB: How to Execute Maltab Function Block Every X Seconds in Simulink

I have a Matlab Function Block that slows down my SImulink simulation. Is there a way to execute the Matlab Function Block every X seconds so my simulation will run faster? It is unnecessary to run the Matlab Function Block every time iteration.

Hi Andrew,

you can achieve this by assigning a sample time: right click on the block, choose "Block Parameters (Subsystem)", and set the Sample Time to 1.

The ability to execute the XY Scopes faster is not available in Simulink 7.4 (R2009b). The reason is that the XY Graph block is a M S-Function block. Its execution methods are written in MATLAB code that are interpreted to execute and consequently takes more time to execute. It also updates the plot every time it is executed which further slows it down.

To workaround this issue, you can to set a slower sample time for the XY Scope block which will reduce the number of its executions and hence speeding up the model.

G - since the timer callback (that function that you wish to execute every sixty seconds) is a function, then you need to assign a function handle rather than a string giving the name of the file that you wish to execute. Perhaps this is different for your version of MATLAB, but for mine (R2014a), I would do the following

 set(ceas, 'TimerFcn', @refresh, 'Period', 60)

where, in my refresh.h file I would have

 function refresh(source, eventdata)
 fromdate = now-1;
 todate = now;
 %timeseries(c,sec,{fromdate,todate},60);

For all timer callbacks, there are two default input parameters, source and eventdata, so you need to define them as inputs to the function.

In the above, I've commented out the call to timeseries because it is unclear what c and sec are (or why you are passing a cell array into timeseries). What is the intent here? Where are these variables (c and sec) coming from?
