MATLAB 7.4 (R2007a) only supports English and Japanese for English versions of Windows XP. Chinese and Korean are not officially supported. It should be noted that using multiple languages in the same MATLAB session is not possible, as that would require restarting the computer after every change made to the Language Options .
However, if you need to use another language, Chinese for example, when working on English Windows XP, your machine's locale needs to be set to Chinese. To make the changes to your machine’s locale:
1. Bring up the "Regional and Language Options" from Control Panel.
2. On the Languages tab, check "Install files for East Asian languages". This check box is grayed out if you already have the fonts installed. Otherwise, some files on Windows XP professional CD-ROM are needed.
3. On the "Advanced" tab, set the "Language for non-Unicode programs" as Chinese.
4. On the "Regional Options" tab, set "Standards and formats" as Chinese. Press apply. You will then be prompted to restart your computer so that the changes take effect.
