MATLAB: Horzcat error while using ‘ ‘

horzcat

names=['john'; 'ravi'; 'mary'; 'xiao']

howdy=char('10', '20', '30' ,'40')

result=[howdy, ' ', names] % ' ' in order to seperate columns

I wanna create result as

john 10

ravi 20

mary 30

xiao 40

but result=[howdy, ' ', names] gives horzcat error. How can I fix this?

howdy=['10'; '20'; '30' ;'40']
result=[names repmat(' ',4,1) howdy]

result=[howdy(2,:), ' ', names(3,:)];

or use sprintf(), like I prefer:

result = sprintf('%s %s', howdy(2,:), names(3,:));

By the way, if any names are not exactly the same length as the others, then you'll have to have names be a cell array, not a character array and you'll have to use braces, not parentheses, like I did here.

Varibles_Names={'Name', 'Mark1', 'Mark2', 'Mark3'};

Result:

 3×4 table
     Name       Mark1    Mark2    Mark3
    ________    _____    _____    _____
    'Ajay'      20       25       23   
    'Sekhar'    30       35       33   
    'Tom'       40       45       43
