MATLAB: Get Simulink Block name from Callback function

In Simulink, is there any way to get the name of the block whose callback function is invoked, from within the function itself? Some functionality similar to the 'this' pointer in C++?

I figured out that it was possible to do this using the "gcb" handle. So for getting the block's full name, all I had to do was:-

dev = sprintf('%s/%s',get_param(gcb, 'Parent'), get_param(gcb, 'Name'))

Hope this helps anyone else stuck with the same problem as I was.

This is expected behaviour.

As a workaround you can modify the GUI MATLAB file to evaluate the callbacks of the SIMULINK block mask.

The following code illustrates how to do this:

names = get_param(gcb,'MaskNames');
callbacks = get_param(gcb,'MaskCallbacks');
eval(callbacks{find(strcmp(names,'callback_name'))});

There is a ConnectionCallback function which can be implemented for the port of the blocks. This callback is triggered every time connectivity to the port is changes.

Implement this callback for your input and output ports. Inside the callback, you can write the code to get the signal name to which port is connected using get_param() and set the port name using set_param().
