MATLAB: Enable function in TCP/IP communication

Hi community,

Good day to you. This is my first time posting here and also my first time working on TCP/IP communication in Simulink. To understand better, I am using the examples 'TargetToTargetTCPServer' on my laptop and 'TargetToTargetTCPClient' on my desktop. I had modified the IP address of my workstations to the addresses in the examples. However, when I try to run the simulation, the output status of the 'TCP configure' block is always zero. I am not sure if this is the problem in establishing TCP/IP communication between the client and server.

I tried searching for a solution for the past 2 days but couldn't find any. It would be really great if someone can help me with the issue.

The mentioned examples for Simulink Real-Time require two real-time target machines from Speedgoat. In other words, you cannot run those TCP/IP examples between your laptop and desktop PC. If you need TCP communication on Windows PC, you should look at the Instrument Control Toolbox.

To begin, use an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cross-over cable with RJ45 connectors for direct connection between the host and target computers, and then use the following steps:

1) Enter the following command at the MATLAB command prompt on the host computer:

!ipconfig

2) Assign the target computer IP address to be 1 above the host PC IP address. For example, if IPCONFIG returns the IP address of "192.168.1.100", then enter an IP address of "192.168.1.101" for your target computer in the XPCSETUP GUI.

There are 2 ways to ensure host/target communication through TCP/IP:

1. In this case both the host and target are connected to the network through the UTP cable. In this case, the target must have a static IP address. Any computer on a network is assigned an IP address by the DHCP server at start-up. A static IP address means that a computer on a network always gets assigned the same IP address. This is to ensure that the host machine always communicates to the target machine. If a different machine on the network gets the target machine's IP address, the the host will end up pinging this machine rather than the target; it is for this reason that the target should have a static address in such a scenario.

2. Instead of being on a network, the host and target can be connected directly. For this, you will have to use a crossover UTP cable with RJ45 connectors . The host and target computers in this case should have static IP addresses Ensure that the cable used in this scenario is the cross over cable.

UTP cable refers to unshielded Twisted Pair cables. This is the most commonly used cable for Ethernet communication.
