Is it possible that the editor checks automatically in the background, while I am typing, that a by me used variable or handle, etc. name isn´t already exisitent somewhere in MATLAB or a MATLAB toolbox as a function name, keyword or any other import and thus better to reserve than overwrite word? At the moment I am working without toolboxes, but I would like to be prepared as good as possible for the future, and if the editor would not check only against installed functions, but would have a list with generally from The Mathworks available functions, it could be helpful if ALL those existent words become accordingly colored. Furthermore, do the function names from my own code become automatically incorporated in the 'reserved / occupied' name list of the editor (R2013b) for color coding, if my m-files are on a reachable path?

I don't think there is a readily available function right for it. To separate a word, it's pretty easy, especially when the number of letters is fixed for prefix and suffix.

- Stephen, I'd say it's a best practice so you're not hurting anything or anyone. Whether it's worth the keystrokes and time for you, that's your own cost function :)
- The code analyzer does still suggest avoiding i and j for defining sqrt(-1). Though many if not most users ignore the code analyzer:

which -all functionnamewhere functionname is the string function name you want to check. I do this before pretty everything I write. Some checking can be avoided by using namespaces (packages).
When I worked in tech support this was the INDIVIDUAL BIGGEST cause of most calls. Why am I getting a "Too Many Inputs Error" somewhere etc. Pretty much every error message that came from code could be resolved by dbstop if error and which -all, which also tells you about license checkout failures.
