I have both the Image Acquisition Toolbox 1.5 (R14) and the OPC Toolbox 1.1 (R14+) installed on my system. However, the Image Acquisition Toolbox does not work. In particular, sometimes it fails with a segmentation violation.

The Image Acquisition Toolbox 1.5 and OPC Toolbox 1.1 are not compatible under MATLAB 7.0 (R14). In order to use the Image Acquisition Toolbox after the OPC Toolbox 1.1 has been installed, the Image Acquisition Toolbox must be updated to version 1.6. This will ensure both products remain compatible.

There is an error in the documentation for Image Acquisition Toolbox with regards to the driver version requirements.

Each version of Image Acquisition Toolbox is designed to work with a specific version of the CMU DCAM Driver. For example Image Acquisition Toolbox 1.10 (R2006a) is compatible with CMU DCAM version 6.3. Older or newer versions of the driver may not function properly.

The supported version of the driver is shipped with MATLAB and can be located in the following directory:

 $MATLABROOT\toolbox\imaq\imaqextern\drivers\win32\dcam

Where $MATLABROOT is the MATLAB root directory on your machine, as returned by executing MATLABROOT at the MATLAB Command Prompt.

We have verified that there is a bug in the Image Acquisition Toolbox 1.8 (R14SP2) in the way that it handles this particular type of DCAM format 7 Camera.

To work around this issue, try using one of the non-format 7 modes of the camera, which has almost the same resolution as the format 7 mode, as follows:

vidobj = videoinput('dcam', 1, 'Y422_640x480');

You can find the supported formats of your camera by running the IMAQSUPPORT function. For more information regarding this function, type the following command at the MATLAB command prompt:

help imaqsupport

You can view the supported DCAM formats of your camera under the "DCAM ADAPTOR" section of the file produced by the above function.

Note that prior to R14SP3 if you have installed MATLAB in a location with spaces, you might also need to download a new version of IMAQSUPPORT.
