I am calling the FILTER function in Communications Toolbox 3.1 (R14SP2), with a scalar argument for the baseband signal vector. I receive the following segmentation error:

and/or the following error dialog:
Runtime Error: Program MATLABROOT\MATLAB.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information. (where MATLABROOT is the directory where MATLAB is installed)
For instance, the following code reproduces this issue:
chan1 = rayleighchan(1/100000,130); % Create object.
y = filter(chan1,1);
