MATLAB: Does MATLAB 7.0.1 (R14SP1) not respect the preferences I have set when it is run over a network

localMATLABNetworkpreferences

I am using MATLAB 7.0.1 (R14SP1) over a network. In addition to the network copy of MATLAB, there is also a local copy of MATLAB installed on each of the computers within that network.
In MATLAB, I select "File -> Preferences…" from the menu bar to change the preferences. For example, in the "Preferences" window, I select "General -> MAT-Files" and then check the "Ensure backward compatibility (-v6)" check box.
I find that after closing and restarting MATLAB, subsequent MAT-files that I generate are not backward compatible, even though the "Ensure backward compatibility (-v6)" check box remains checked.

To resolve this issue, ensure that the preferences of the local copy of MATLAB are also set to the desired settings of the network copy. MATLAB 7.0.1 (R14SP1) uses the preferences stored locally for network instances of MATLAB.
