MATLAB: Do I receive an unknown service error after entering the MathWorks Account login in the installer

When I input my email address and password, I get an error in the MATLAB installer:
 Service Error -7,300
I cannot proceed in the installation beyond this step.

This bug has been fixed in Release 2011b. For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
This is an error with a web service that prevents an automatic installation.
To work around this problem perform a 'manual' installation after the license has been activated in the License Center. For information on how to activate in the License Center see the related solution "How can I install or activate manually on a computer without using the internet?"
