I receive the following error message when starting MATLAB:

 Cannot convert string "-b&h-luxi sans-medium-r-normal--*-140-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

This behavior can also be observed in regular MATLAB sessions. To work around this issue, execute the command

simulink

from a different directory.
