When I install MATLAB 6.1 (R12.1) on my Dec Alpha 4.0f machine, I get the following error message:
 tar: sys/java/jre/alpha/jre : Not a directory

This problem can occur if you have installed MATLAB 6.1 (R12.1) over an existing installation of MATLAB. If this is the case, please uninstall all versions of MATLAB you currently have in this directory. Once you have cleaned it out, only install MATLAB 6.1 (R12.1) into this directory.
