Why do I see the error: "The current directory c:\program files\matlab\r2019b\bin is reserved for MATLAB files" when I try to run the simulation for a model?

Some folders in MATLAB installation location are reserved for MATLAB files.

If these folders are set as the current working folder in MATLAB, you will get a directory access error.

To resolve the error, please change the current folder to a writable folder such as C:\Users\<user_name>\Desktop.

This can be done in two ways:

Using cd command from the command line (https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/cd.html)
Using GUI: Click on the folder-icon with green arrow on it (it has been marked with a red rectangle in the attached image) and select a writable folder such as C:\Users\<user_name>\Desktop _or _C:\Users\<user_name>\Documents.

The support package installation folder is not set or cannot be retrieved for some reason. The installation folder is saved in $MATLAB/toolbox/local/supportpackagerootsetting.xml. The file may not exist, not have read permissions or be invalid.

Run the following command to see if any errors are returned:

>> matlabshared.supportpkg.getSupportPackageRoot

Run the following to set an installation folder, then run the above again to verify if the folder was set properly:

>> matlabshared.supportpkg.setSupportPackageRoot('path_to_writable_location')

Replace "path_to_writable_location" with a valid path. Common locations are:

- Windows: C:\ProgramData\MATLAB\SupportPackages\<release>

- Linux: /home/<user>/Documents/MATLAB/SupportPackages/<release>

- Mac: /Users/<user>/Documents/MATLAB/SupportPackages/<release>

Alternatively, setting the contents of supportpackagerootsetting.xml to the following should work on all platforms:

You just need to specify the full path of the folder you want to delete to rmdir. If you supply just the folder name, it assumes that folder is in the current directory. You can use fullfile to build the full path of the folder:

parentfolder = 'C:\somewhere\on\the\drive';
foldername = 'deleteme'
rmdir(fullfile(parentfolder, foldername), 's');
