MATLAB: Define vector that assigns element positions in VecB, corresponding to values in VecA, when length(VecA)>length(VecB)

I have an array

VecA=[0 1 0 -1 0 1 -2]

and the vector

VecB= [-2 -1 0 1 2]

I want to creat a vector of length=7, which contains the positiions of each of the elements from VecA in VecB, namely

VecC=[3 4 3 2 3 4 1]

How do I do this using vector operations (no loops)? Is it a one-liner?

Try this:

h = [0 1 2 3 4 0 6 7 8 9 10]
% Do the formula everywhere.
a = 1.24 ./ h
% Find those elements where h is > 0
elementsToReplace = find(h > 0)
% Initialize us to h
us = h;
% Now replace only those elements where h was greater than zero.
us(elementsToReplace) = a(elementsToReplace)

MATLAB: Taking difference of adjecent elements by seting a custom order

Ali - you could create two vectors of indices that you can then use to perform the subtraction. One vector would be all indices starting from 3, 4, 5,... up to the last index (which would correspond to the length of the input vector), and the other vector would be all indices starting from 1, 2, 3,... up to two less than the end of the input vector. Try the following

 A      = [1 2 3 4 5 6];
 idx2   = 3:length(A);
 idx1   = 1:length(A)-2;
 myDiff = A(idx2) - A(idx1);

Running the above returns

 myDiff =
     2     2     2     2

which correspond to the differences of 3-1, 4-2, 5-3, and 6-4.
