MATLAB: Debug /pause at every function definition line (local function or function script) without explicit breakpoints

Dear All,

I am trying to debug a GUI associated with a (new to me) code package, containing m scripts with multiple local functions/subfunctions, and also function scripts. During certain GUI operations, the code executions hops from one function to another. Is there a way to pause in debug mode at the function definition line of any function/subfunction within a particular script, or when hopping to another function script, without declaring any breakpoints beforehead (since I do not know which scripts/functions the GUI uses a priori)?

There's no way to say "stop whenever a new function gets called" in debug mode without setting breakpoints.

But if you're debugging your code you can "Step In" to the function that gets called on a particular line. You can also "Run to Cursor" to move your cursor to a particular line and automatically execute up to that point. See the "Step Through File" section on this documentation page for more information.

I would think that you need to use the dir command. If the files are located in your C drive then:

clear all
TopFolder = 'C:\';
SubFolder = dir(TopFolder);
SubFolder = SubFolder(3:end); % the first two here are just pointers
a = struct2cell(SubFolder);
Name = a(1,:);

This will give you the name of the files where your data is located. You then need to obtain the name of each of the files in that folder:

b = cellfun(@(x)dir(fullfile(TopFolder,x)),Name,'un',0);
c = cellfun(@(x)x(3:end),b,'un',0);
d = cellfun(@(x)struct2cell(x),c,'un',0);
FileS = cellfun(@(x)x(1,:),d,'un',0);

You can then import the data using one of the built in matlab functions:

If your data is stored in a text file I would recommend using textscan.

MATLAB: Debugging a callback function

"[...] debug as normal [...]"? Could you provide an example? I would either set

    >> dbstop if error

or set a breakpoint in the callback function before I fire the callback.
