MATLAB: Create a diagonal text box in GUI (rotate axis)

I'm trying to create a text box within my GUI (not using guide) that is at an upward 45 degree angle to the positive x-axis.

I've tried to create an axis within my GUI, add the text to the axis and then rotate the axis. Is this possible? I cannot seem to find a way to do it? Or is there some other method for doing this?

create a hggroup() and parent the axes within that. Then you can apply a hgtransform() to the axes.

However: if you only need a single text line changed, then you would probably be better off using a text() object and setting its Rotation property. Or use this method if your box only needs to contain text objects and no graphics objects; the box itself can be easily constructed using line()

The ability to rotate uicontrol text boxes is not available in MATLAB 7.0 (R14).

To work around this issue, use a text object and set the Rotation property to the desired rotation in degrees. An example is shown below:

plot(1:10)
t=text(0.5,0.5,'Button Label','Rotation',30,'FontSize',14)

Works ok here to plot() data on top of a boxplot; didn't use grouping variables though so the x-axes values are 1:N where N is the number of variables. I would presume that's what happens with a grouping variable but don't have anything handy to -- oh, wait a minute, ISTR one of the examples does use grouping -- yes, indeed. OK, starting from having data in the example,

Seems to work just fine; I'm guessing you're not plotting at the correct x,y locations given the axis limits; particularly the x-axis being ordinal so XTick-->1:N, not the value of the grouping variable.
