MATLAB: Command to exit to the base workspace

Is there a command "between" return and quit that will exit from a workspace but leave me in the base workspace? return puts me into the caller workspace while quit exits matlab altogether. I simply want to close the program I'm in and get back to the >> prompt. I could of course execute a keyboard command, and then dbquit all, but I'd much prefer to be able to do it in one step.

As Bruno Luong pointed out, this does not work inside try-catch and also prints text to the command window.

The variable might not be in the same workspace. If you defined it at the command prompt then it would be in the "base" workspace rather than in the function's workspace. You can retrieve variables from the base workspace:

   evalin('base', 'kinect_image')

but almost always a better way is to pass the variable to the function.

Why are you exiting the code before you present the Error box?

Why are you using msgbox() instead of errordlg() ?

Do you want Matlab as a whole to EXIT, or do you want to RETURN to whatever routine might have called the present one, or do you want to create an ERROR condition that throws the program back to the command prompt unless something CATCHes the error?
