MATLAB: Collector for array formed of replicated subararrays

I'm trying to use the Collector object with an array formed of replicated subarrays, but I keep receiving messages of 'not enough inputs'; that is:

collector = phased.Collector('Sensor',array,'OperatingFrequency',fc);

rxData = collector(sig,targetAngle);

'Not enough input arguments. Expected 3, got 2.'

Could someone please help me with that? What other inputs are necessary?

Another question regarding either the Collector or Radiator objects, do they take into account the antenna gain at the designated angle of the specified sensor when simulating the transmitting/received signal?

They do consider the gain at different angles.

As to the input, you may want to check with your setting in array. Did you turn on steering in the replicated subarray? if so, you need to pass in the steering information to the function call.

You should use tgtang. Note that what you do here is to synthesize the data. Therefore, even though the radar is not steering, you need to know what is the corresponding directional response of the radar toward the target. Therefore you need to use the direction toward the target.

The steering of the entire array is divided into two parts. The first parts is the weights at the subarray level, that's where you can use a weighting vector. However, you cannot directly access within each subarray. Therefore, the phasing within each subarray is controlled by a property in the subarray. For example,

sphericalHexagonalSubarray.SubarraySteering = 'Phase';

This means that the phase within each subarray will be controlled via phase shifters. You can also specify the frequency at which those phase shifters operate on.

Now if you want to see the beam pattern, you can do the following

stv = phased.SteeringVector('SensorArray',sphericalHexagonalSubarray);
fc = 3e8;
steer_ang = 30;
w = step(stv,fc,steer_ang);
pattern(sphericalHexagonalSubarray,fc,-90:90,0,'Type','PowerdB','SteerAngle',steer_ang);

In general, if you use subarray with SubarraySteering turned on, then you will need to specify an extra input to indicate which angle you want to steer the subarrays to.
