MATLAB: ‘Clipping’ the quiver plot

I have a quiver plot in which some of the arrows are on the edge of the plot and pointing outwards. The portion of quiver arrows that are outside of the plot limit are invisible. I want to make that visible.

My research shows that there is a 'Clipping' option for quiver, it seems that by turning the 'Clipping' off, I will get what I want. However 'Clipping' off does not make any difference? What do I miss? Thanks.

In R2014b, turning the clipping off works as I would expect:

quiver(0.5,0.5,1,1)
axis([0 1 0 1])
ax = gca;
ax.Clipping = 'off';

MATLAB: Gca.XLimMode does not work

If you check the xLimMode after running your code, you will see that it has changed back to auto after the plot() statement. You need to hold() the axis to stop it from changing automatically.

fig = figure;
ha1 = axes;
ha1.Position = [0.5 0.5 0.3 0.3]
ha1.XLim = [-10 -5];
ha1.YLim  = [-5 -1];
set(ha1,'xlimMode','manual');
set(ha1,'ylimMode','manual');
[x,y] = ginput;
hold(ha1);  %<--- this line will prevent automatic changes.

Example

t=0:0.1:10;
y=sin(t);
plot(t,y);
set(gca,'xlim',[0 5])

With the new version of Matlab

h=gca
h.XLim=[0 5]
