MATLAB: Changing the Default Copy of Perl Installed with MATLAB

In this post HERE I asked how to see which copy of perl was installed with matlab. This is the copy of perl which gets called when perl.m is used.

I have been given a .pl script which requires a newer version of perl as it uses "switch". Thus I need the copy to support threads.

I have been instructed to install the "ActiveState version". Can someone please inform me how I can do this and how I associate matlab with this new version?

I am running 64bit win7, 2013A and

   system(['"',fullfile(matlabroot, 'sys\perl\win32\bin\perl.exe'),'" -version'])
This is perl, v5.8.9 built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread 
(with 12 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)

simply call it and find it out. On Windows:

MATLAB: How to change the version of PERL that MATLAB uses on a Windows system

You can change the version of PERL that MATLAB uses by pointing it to a different location, where the new executable exists.

You can edit PERL.M and have MATLAB use a newer version of the PERL executable that you wish.

If your open perl.m by typing "edit perl.m", around line 65 your will see the following:

      perlCmd = fullfile(matlabroot, 'sys\perl\win32\bin\');

Comment this code and add your new path as the perlCmd variable.
