MATLAB: Changing enable field in GUI property inspector

How to i change the enable field in the property ispector?

I have a radio button that when pressed, i want it to disable a text box.

this is what i have

set(handles.ions_dir, 'Enable', false)

where ions_dir is the text box i am trying to disable

but it doesnt seem to work. anyone know whats the correct command? thanks

Here I guess, that you work with GUIDE and that the radio buttons got the tags "radio1" and "radio2". You have to adjust this to your real names. If you do not know than, search in GUIDE or set a breakpoint in the callback. Then run the code and display the contents of the handles struct, when Matlab stops.

 This would naturally have to update whenever the radio button
 selection was changed.

What should be updated? The Value property is equivalent to the current setting automatically. Or do you mean, that the shown callback should be triggered, when the radio buttons are selected?

set(AnAppropriateHandle, 'enable', 'off')

and later

set(AnAppropriateHandle, 'enable', 'on')

Side note: 'enable' can also take on the value 'disable' in some cases. If you have a uicontrol() of style 'edit' then if you set its 'enable' property to 'disable' then the field will become not editable but it will still be scrollable and will not be dimmed. This is a way to create a scrollable read-only text area. If you were to set 'enable' to 'off' then the area would be dimmed and it would not be possible to scroll it.
