MATLAB: Can MATLAB be used in Arduino Applications

I am currently taking Computational Methods (basically an Introduction to MATLAB) course at my university. I also recently purchased an Arduino microcontroller as I am switching majors (into Electrical Engineering) and wanted to get my hands dirty with some projects over winter break. Since I now have some experience and a good knowledge base of programming in MATLAB, I was hoping to use MATLAB to program the Arduino. I know that C or C++ is commonly used when programming the Arduino, but does it have the capability to run using MATLAB code? Thanks for your help.

I would still suggest C or LabVIEW(beginner friendly) for Arduino

Hi Halsey,

Yes you can program arduino board using a MATLAB script. You have to use a MATLAB Function Block to do that. The support started since R2019b. In R2019b three peripherals are supported - Analog input, Digitla IO and PWM. In R2020a, I2C and SPI is also in plan for support. Look into the documentation below.

MATLAB: Vehicle dynamics blockset: creating reference applications

Hi Daniel,

When you run commands like:

vdynblksIncreasingSteeringStart

this tells MATLAB to create a new copy of the project. By default, this is stored in your "MATLAB Projects" directory. You can move this folder anywhere you want and make your modifications to that project. The "source" project is always within your MATLAB installation directory, so you don't have to worry about overwriting it. You can make as many new copies of the original reference application as you like, then customize them as needed.
