MATLAB: Can I use version Version 6.1.0.450 (R12.1) (circa 2002) on a 64 bit Windows 7 computer? It works on Win 7 but not 8. I think it may use a virtual machine.
32 or 64 bit os. old versions.
Same as question.

I've tried a lot but did not get Matlab 6.5.1 (R13.1) to run under Windows7/64. My last impression was, that it was a problem of the installer, not of Matlab itself. Finally I've installed it in a virtual Windows XP/32 and this works smoothly. I had success with the XP-Mode shipped with Windows and with VirtualBox.
However, in that release, there is no bessel() function, as opposed to besseli() and so on.
You need to look back even further, to MATLAB 4.x . In particular, you need to look athttp://ftp.task.gda.pl/site/mathworks-toolbox/matlab/specfun/ where you will find MATLAB and FORTRAN source code for the bessel functions for MATLAB in that time frame. You will be able to see that back then bessel() took two parameters and called besselj() with them.
