MATLAB: Am I unable to use the spacebar and the trackpad to pan in Simulink

When I try to use my laptop's trackpad to perform a spacebar pan in the Simulink Editor, nothing happens. Why?

Many laptop vendors include a feature in their trackpad software that rejects events from the trackpad when you are actively typing. Because spacebar pan involves holding the spacebar down, then moving the cursor using the trackpad, this type of feature prevents Simulink from seeing the trackpad events, thus blocking the rest of the pan operation. In some cases the trackpad filtering does not kick in immediately, so you might see a small amount of panning happen, then stop.

You can work around this issue by using a mouse rather than the trackpad. Your laptop vendor may also provide control panel or registry settings that will allow you to turn off this trackpad event filtering. For example, Lenovo has instructions for some of their laptops on their forums. Other laptop and trackpad vendors document similar features.
