MATLAB Student Version 6.5 (R13) has been fully tested and qualified under Windows XP.
If you are still running MATLAB Student Version 6.0 (R12), see the following:
Because the MATLAB Student Version 6.0 (R12) was released before Windows XP, it has not been tested against Windows XP. However, the MATLAB Student Version 6.0 (R12) does run under Windows XP.
There are, however, 4 issues that seemed to be caused by running Student Version under Windows XP.
The first issue actually arises as a result of using a Pentium IV processor.
The second issue has to do specifically with Windows XP. This issue is related to display problems with MATLAB figure windows.
The third issue is the result of having incompatabilities with the CD-ROM or DVD drivers.
The fourth issue is using the Notebook with OfficeXP

Pentium IV Issue
===============
If MATLAB errors out when you try to launch it, you will have to do one of two things.
1. The first option is to start MATLAB with a -nojvm flag as follows:
This can be done in a DOS shell or you can right-click on MATLAB's shortcut and add the '-nojvm' flag to the end of the Target Field.
NOTE: Since starting MATLAB with the -nojvm flag disables the Java Virtual Machine, certain MATLAB features, such as the MATLAB Editor, GUIDE and the Array Editor will not work because they are written in Java and therefore require the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) in order to run.
2. The second option, which will allow you to use MATLAB with its full capabilities, is to install a Java patch from Sun Microsystems. For full instructions on doing this, see the Related Solution, "Why do I receive one of the following errors when attempting to launch MATLAB 6.0 (R12) on a computer with a Pentium IV processor?".

Display Issue
===============
If you are having display problems with your MATLAB figure windows, you must run MATLAB in Windows Classic Mode. For detailed instructions, see the Related Solution, "Why is my figure window not displaying properly on Windows XP? ".

CD-ROM or DVD Issue

If you are encountering difficulties starting the Student Version of MATLAB 6.0 (R12) with the Documentation CD, see the Related Solution, "Why do I receive errors when trying to Launch MATLAB 6.0 (R12) on a Pentium IV machine?"
==================
MATLAB Notebook and OfficeXP
==================
OfficeXP was released after MATLAB Student Version 6.0 (R12) Notebook, and so there is no option to choose OfficeXP to use with the Notebook.
In order to use OfficeXP with the Notebook, see the Related Solution, "Does the Student Version 6.0 (R12) Notebook work with OfficeXP (Office 2002)?"
