MATLAB: Am I unable to drag the startup shortcut in MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) to the dock in Mac OS X

In prior versions of MATLAB, I was able to drag the MATLAB shortcut (in the /Applications/MATLAB folder) onto the Dock. But in MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) I cannot drop the shortcut onto the Dock.

The MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) shortcut is a .smat file and hence cannot be dropped onto the Dock. The Mac OS lets users drop only .app files onto the Dock.

As a workaround, you can drag the Start MATLAB Settings.app file located in $MATLAB/maci/ (where $MATLAB is your root MATLAB installation folder, usually /Applications/MATLAB_R2008a/ )

This issue has been for R2008b.

MATLAB: How to build MEX files with the Intel® Visual Fortran version 11.1 compiler in MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a)

Getting MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) to recognize Intel® Visual Fortran version 11.1 is beyond the limits of Technical Support.

Since MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) does not support Intel® Visual Fortran 11.1, we recommend using 10.1 version of the Intel® Visual Fortran compiler.
