I wanted to be able to load a network connection in Google Earth (or Google Maps) to display daily updated maps using Geoserver. I want something very simple but I have never published web maps before.
Can anyone explain the steps required to do this?

Meanwhile i managed to learn most part of it. Now i only need to know how to perform spatial analysis and publish the results all automatically.
The OpenGeo Suite's GeoExplorer now has the styling capability that Styler used to have. That must be why they shelved it.

You need to implement a WebGIS application which base layer is provided by Google Maps and which main feature layer is provided by your employer GeoServer instance. For this purpose you may use the excellent open source library OpenLayers. In its home site you can find tutorials and examples which can help you to implement your application. Alternatively you may use maps provided by OpenStreetMap or other open data services in your application.
Web browsers prevent applications from performing AJAX requests to domains different from domain serving the application. Therefore this will prevent your application to reach data provided by the GeoServer instance. For avoiding this limitation you may enable cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) in the GeoServer instance. You can find more information about CORS in this web site.

Still not sure exactly what the question is but.. If you have Geoserver up and running, the easiest step is to use the sample view feature to view your wms data. Copy and paste the address into the network link in Google Earth. You can also customize the display in google earth with simple xml files placed in the data folders. Search the Geoserver help, there are some nice tutorials there.
