[GIS] Symbolizing polygon fill color based on HTML hex color attribute value in ArcMap

I have a set of polygons that I need to symbolize with a certain color. I have an column in the attribute table that contains the contains the html hex color value (#FF0000 Red) that I want the polygon to be colored. Is there a way to symbolize the color based on the attribute value?

I see that this might be possible using ArcPy along with a .lyr file, but I am not very experienced with ArcPy, and the last post isn't that promising, stating that the symbology property is read-only.

If you want to switch to ArcGIS Pro, this is possible there:

(Note that ArcGIS Pro still has some cartographic limitations compared to ArcGIS for Desktop, such as a lack of frame indicators.)

You could definitely do as Johns describes and create an additional field to be your symbol field based on the other three attributes. This could be done by using the field calculator with VB or python. Set the parser as Python, Click "Show Codeblock" For example:

Using if and else statements you can populate your new symbology field with integers or text. Based on this text, you can set your symbology

def symbology (field1, field2, field3):
 #if your 1st field is equal to "sometext" and field 2 is equal to 0.25 populate symbology field with one
  if (field1 == "sometext" and field2 == 0.25):
    return 1
  elif (field1 == "PINE" and field3 > 10):
    return 2
   #if none of the above conditions are met, return 3
  else:
    return 3

under your new field = write:

symbology(!field1!, !field2!, !field3!)

As an additional note, make sure none of your if/else conditions overlap or your won't get the correct values!

Creating Symbols in ArcMap with Size and Color Based on Two Variables

I am also having the same problem and there is an official answer at How To: Symbolize points based on multiple attribute values in ArcMap.

In short, in the 'value fields' choose only ONE variable, in the 'variation by-symbol size' choose another variable

Full procedure:

In Table Of Contents, right-click the layer and click Properties.
In the Layer Properties dialog box, click the Symbology tab. On the left side (the Show: box), click Multiple Attributes.
In the Value Fields section, select the field containing the attribute to base the color symbology on. Leave the other two fields blank.
Click the Add All Values button at the bottom and uncheck .
Click the Symbol Size button. The Draw quantities using symbol size to show relative values dialog box is displayed.
Select the Value field and set it to the field that has quantities. Leave the Normalization as none. Click OK.
