One of the layers has around 5000 attribute entries, based on a CSV file of species records. All the features are of course shown on the map layer. How can I select a specific class of features so that only they appear on a map, so that for example a distribution map for a species can be generated. I have tried "Advanced Filter (Expression)" so that the Attribute Table shows only the required species, but it still shows all the attributes on the map layer.
I am using QGIS 2.10.1.
If you choose rulebased labeling, you can use for example the following expression as a filter to rule out all labels containing "fiume"
NOT(regexp_match("NOME",'FIUME'))
This gives you all rivers not containing the string "fiume", then you simply tell QGis how to label these. Then you also have to "catch" all the rivers containing the "fiume"-string
regexp_match("NOME",'FIUME')
And now tell QGis to not to label these, or maybe label with the same shortened expression for all small rivers.
Just run Field calculator, update the field by typing this expression:
