[GIS] QGIS “Raster->Georeference” menu item not showing up

I am using QGIS 2.12.0 Lyon. I have installed a plug-in called "Georeferencer GDAL" and the version of that plug-in is 3.1.9 . [I am working on a Mac which is running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.]

I am trying to follow tutorials on georeferencing. A critical step is "Click on Raster -> Georeference".

In my Raster menu, no item named "Georeference" appears. But the Plug-in Manager assures me that the plug-in "Georeferencer GDAL" is in fact installed. How can I get it to appear in the Raster menu, or in some other way that makes it accessible for my use?

The plugin is installed by default, but for strange reasons it might get deactivated in the plugin manager.

Checking the square left to the plugin name, or double-click on the plugin name will enable the plugin permanently.

If you know that you can refine the GCP later, write the georeferencing result to a vrt file using the GDAL batch conmmandline export.

You can edit that later with any text editor, and add additional GCP's.

Re-georeferencing a tif is more complicated, because the first round you georeference ageianst pixel coordinates, while the second run uses the coordinates of the defined CRS. At least with the QGIS georeferencer.

You can add a custom menu to the QGIS GUI this way:

self.menu = QMenu( "&My tools", self.iface.mainWindow().menuBar() )
actions = self.iface.mainWindow().menuBar().actions()
lastAction = actions[-1]
self.iface.mainWindow().menuBar().insertMenu( lastAction, self.menu )

As you can see in the code snippet above, you are adding a menu to the second to last position of the menu bar, right before the Help menu.

Then, you can add an action to your newly added menu this way:

self.menu.addAction( self.action )

You may already know, but just to make it clear, such GUI configuration should normally be located in the initGui() method of your plugin.
