[GIS] QGIS conversion of Microstation .DGN to .SHP

I'm attempting to convert a .dgn file to .shp using QGIS.

I'm reading that support is only provided for v7 microstation files, is this still the case?

I've been using ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile" output.shp input.dgn and it throws the following error.

Unable to open datasource `input.dgn' with the following drivers.
  -> ESRI Shapefile
  -> MapInfo File
  -> UK .NTF
... The list goes on.

Yes v7 is the most current .DGN support. Have you tries loading it into QGIS and exporting it from QGIS? You can do this by right clicking on the .DGN file and choosing Save As, but again, only up to .DGN v7

try FME , costs , but manages all your conversion problems

For me it has been the best spatial tool in my job, i do file type conversion, i reproject data with it, i do some spatial db stuff with it.

No, gdal doesn't generate any user.

You should find '-> "OCI" (read/write)' in the Supported Formats list if "OCI driver" is installed/configured properly. At this point the following syntax (you have to customize a little bit) should work:

ogr2ogr <srs> -f "ESRI Shapefile" /favourite/path/test.shp OCI:"<oracle user>/<oracle password>@(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <hostname>)(PORT = <port number>)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SID =<sid name>))):<oracle schema>.<oracle table>"
